About Running Pace
"Pace" is the time it takes to run a fixed distance — usually one kilometer or one mile. It's the inverse of speed: a 5:00 / km pace is the same as 12 km/h. Runners typically train and race using pace because it's easier to feel out a steady time per km than a steady speed in km/h.
Enter your target pace and the calculator shows your speed in both metric and imperial, plus projected finish times for common race distances — 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon.
Frequently asked questions
What's a good marathon pace?
A 4-hour marathon is around 5:41 / km (9:09 / mile). Sub-3 hours requires roughly 4:15 / km (6:50 / mile). Elite men finish around 2:55 / km (4:42 / mile).
Does it account for hills or weather?
No — it's a flat-ground, even-pace projection. Real-world finish times are usually slower due to elevation, heat, fatigue, and pacing variance.
